New year, new month, new day, new hour…

The seven keys to success

We are about four weeks into the year 2015. What are you doing to make your 2015 goals a reality? This is what you need to know. New Year is another year just like today is a new day, and next week is another week. Every chance we take to practice positive will power is a huge advance in stepping closer to our goals.

Let me share with you seven key steps to and how to make your goals a reality.

1. DON’T TRY….. DECIDE

Stop saying I’ll try and completely commit yourself to your goal. Be dedicated and make sure all of your choices will promote success.

2. PICK A PLAN OR PROGRAM THAT IS REALISTIC

Don’t bite off more than you can handle. Choose one thing to focus on. You know your schedule. You know how much time you have. You know what you have tried. You know where you have succeeded and where you have failed.

For instance, saying “I will never eat sugar again” or “I will not use any credit cards this year” may not be realistic for you. Be honest with yourself and aim for an addition or reduction in a specific behavior.

3. WRITE IT DOWN

There is a relationship between making your dreams a reality and taking them from your head to a piece of paper. Really there is. So once you know what you want and what you are committing to WRITE IT DOWN and look at it.

4. USE POSITIVE LANGUAGE WHEN REFERRING TO YOUR GOALS

Say DO not DON’T
CAN not CAN’T
I WILL not I’LL TRY or I CAN’T

Examples:
I will eat more fruits and vegetables today and less processed foods.
I will use cash in my transactions this week.
I will drink more water today.
I can workout three times a week.
I will walk for 20 minutes a day.

5. BE ACCOUNTABLE

Find someone with similar goals, a coach, or a group of people that are serious about their health. Many people use social media to hold themselves accountable by logging their daily workout and pictures of everything they eat. Many cities have free running clubs or exercise clubs, if yours does not, it may be worth it for you to start one.

The point is to take responsibility for your actions. Don’t make excuses and know that you will make mistakes. Remember that there will be another test and another chance to practice your will power and make the RIGHT decision. Having someone to talk to or a group of people to show your progress is very motivating.

6. REVIEW YOUR PROGRESS
Take a look at the goals you have written down and write down the steps you have taken to get there. Keep a journal. Use the app myfitnesspal. There is proof in pictures. Take before and after pictures every couple of months. Take measurements and keep note of the inches you’ve lost. Seeing your own progress keeps you going. Remember it takes four weeks for you to notice, eight weeks for your friends to notice, and 12 weeks for the rest of the world to notice. So, it takes time. Don’t quite!

7. REWARD YOURSELF
And lastly reward yourself for your accomplishments. If you got through a week without eating any junk food buy yourself the running shoes you’ve been drooling over for the last year. Please refrain from rewarding yourself with what you’ve worked so hard to purge from your lifestyle.

Stay on the top of your game!
